Union International and Comparative Law Forum: Successful Completion of the JSC 2022

The International and Comparative Law Forum of the Faculty of Law Union University Belgrade (ICLF Union Law) is pleased to announce a successful completion of its first junior scholar conference: Between National and International – Contemporary Challenges and Prospects. The junior scholar conference 2022 (JSC 2022) took place virtually on 25-26 March 2022 and aimed at examining interactions between national and international law in the contemporary setting, and particularly how these interactions impact individuals. Special panels were dedicated to the issue of transitional justice in the region of the Balkans and beyond. This panel is supported by UNDP and UK Government.

Opening keynote address was delivered by Professor Marko Milanovic of the University of Nottingham Faculty of Law and the closing keynote address by Professor Steven Ratner of the University of Michigan Law School. The programme of the ICLF Union JSC 2022 is available here.

The ICLF Union JSC 2022 was intended only for graduate students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and lecturers, aiming to provide them with an opportunity to present and discuss their work with the faculty from the Union Law Belgrade and prominent members of international and comparative law academic community.

Eleven junior scholars got an invitation to present their papers based on rigorous double-blind review. After presentation papers they got detailed feedback from senior colleagues – Narine Ghazaryan (Radboud University), Tara Van Ho (University of Essex), Aleksandra Čavoški (University of Birmingham), Miodrag Jovanović, (University of Belgrade), Marko Milanović (University of Nottingham), Miloš Hrnjaz (University of Belgrade) and Violeta Beširević (Union University Belgrade). Panels were moderated by Jernej Letnar Černič (New University in Ljubljana), Jelena Arsić (Union University Belgrade), Pavele Kilbarda (Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights), Ivan Jovanović (UNDP) and Tatjana Papić (Union University Belgrade).

The ICLF Union JSC 2022 academic board included Matej Avbelj of the New University in Ljubljana, Aleksandra Čavoški of Birmingham Faculty of Law, Filip Ejdus and Miodrag Jovanović of the University of Belgrade, Andreas Müller of the University of Innsbruck, Jelena Subotić of the Georgia State University, and Violeta Beširević and Tatjana Papić of the Union Law Belgrade.
